MEET THE OPHTHALMOLOGIST

Mitra Ayazifar, M.D.

Dr. Ayazifar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California at Berkeley, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Washington, D.C., which she earned in 1997. She did her internship in Internal Medicine at Washington Hospital Center in 1998.

After completing her ophthalmology residency at Brown Medical School/Rhode Island Hospital, she served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and was in charge of management of the General Ophthalmology and Oculoplastic service at Rhode Island Hospital and Veterans Administration Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island. She was also responsible for management of the Outpatient Eye Clinic and the Inpatient Ophthalmology Consult Service at Rhode Island Hospital (a Level 1 Trauma center). She is an active member of American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Known by her patients as “Dr. Mitra,” she is an experienced eye physician and surgeon specializing in cataract surgery utilizing the most advanced specialty intraocular lenses (IOLs). She likes to discuss the best IOL option for each individual patient based on their hobbies, interests and lifestyle needs.

Other interests include functional and cosmetic eyelid procedures including ptosis repair (eyelids and brow), blepharoplasty (upper and lower eyelids) and repair of ectropion, entropion, and various eyelid malpositions. and cosmetic and functional oculoplastic procedures. Her practice includes general ophthalmology patients as well as diagnosis and treatment of a variety of eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, oculoplastic conditions, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.

Dr. Mitra is a year Ovarian Cancer survivor and enjoys fundraising at the annual ROC run with a large group of friends. Outside of ophthalmology, she enjoys kayaking, biking and spending quality time with her family and friends.
